 Team Mascot

Well, the JNN page is finally up and running.  I apologize to the families and friends of the JNN Platoon that it took so long to get this running.  Okay then, an explanation of whats here and what to expect.  The page is call "ALL SYSTEMS GREEN" in reference to our never ending quest to keep communications up and running for the 101st ABN DIV.  The page will consist of notes, pictures, funny stories and the occasional movie to help keep our friends and families back in the good ole' US of A kind of up to date as what we've been doing here.  Of course it goes without saying that we cannot and will not write or show anything that can be used against the US Forces here in Afghanistan.  I will also be using this portion of the page to post any highlights that affect the whole platoon.

As a platoon this journey started back in February of 2008.  I'll never forget the day we left as it was my wife's birthday, but I know I wasn't the only one leaving behind loved ones.  Travelling through Ireland, Germany, Russia and finally Afgahnistan left us all feeling worn out.  Some of our Soldiers had an unexpected layover in Germany as their plane had mechanical issues (go figure).  Expecting a break when we landed, but not getting one, we were soon hard at work ensuring all of our gear arrived safe and preparing it for the jump to our new homes.

JNN 22 left first as the trip to their new base was a round-about route that took quite awhile.  Not long after JNN 21 left and soon found themselves up in the snow of Sharana.  Both teams took charge of their new areas and assisted the outgoing 82nd Airborne back to the states.  As both bases were in the growing phases both teams had their hands full with installing not only their own gear, but also new infrastructure.

As the teams set up shop and settled into a routine of shift work, life settled down.  There have been good times as well as bad, but that can be expected on any deployment.  To their credit the Soldiers and NCO's of the JNN platoon have taken any and all problems that have been handed to them and not only succeded, but they have proven to many that they are some of the best in the 101st Airborne Division.

Who am I?  I am SFC John P Tighe, the JNN Platoon Sergeant.  I have the honor of leading what I consider to be the best platoon in the 101st Division (but to be honest, what platoon sergeant wouldn't say that).  As the Platoon Sergeant for the JNN platoon, I have the responsibilty to manage two sites seperated by over 400 miles in Afghanistan, Enduring Base Sharana home of JNN 21 and Camp Blessing home of JNN 22.  I have been bouncing around the world for the US Army ever since I left Upstate New York back in '87.  The JNN platoon was lead by 1LT Thomas Stall, but he has moved on to greener pastures to be the Platoon Leader of the Company's Traffic Terminal Platoon, Good luck and best wishes to you Sir (Jiboobly).
